I feel there is very little difference between advertising and education. In both cases there is a messenger with a message. The messenger (advertiser/teacher) wants their message to be retained by the audience/students. Educators could improve their outcomes if they took some cues from the advertising industry and improved the way they deliver their message. Advertising has made it a science to make sure their audience retains the message. If educators applied this same science, the knowledge transfer would improve. The advertising industry should take note that what they do does educate their communities – for good and bad. If they would concentrate on the good, we’d all be better off.
